The Amazing Math Calculator
I survived my first ever math tuition session! And methinks I deserve some sort of award or medal. But none are forthcoming.. so, /wallow.
But d’you know, it wasn’t so bad. Quite fun, actually. >< Omg never thought I’d see myself use the word ‘fun’ to describe anything involving math. But it really was quite fun! Main reason for the fun would probably be due to the fact that it was my cousin tutoring me and not his mom (that is, my aunt). Not that she would be very horrible, but she’s an adult. And.. things would be different, I guess. More serious, that’s for sure. And serious is the opposite of fun (yes, I know, I’m Captain Super Obvious).
So anyway I got to their house nearly one hour late despite it being about half an hour’s travel time away from my house, just in time for dinner. And then, after my cousin (let’s call him Ian shall we, since that’s his name) said “Okay, now we can start” three times, we got down to the task of going through my Math paper (yeah, that’s the famous 2/60 one, thank you for asking). So I showed him the math paper, which elicited the expected “What the hell were you trying to do here” response, and my holiday homework, which got a “Erm.. am I supposed to help you do this?”, to which I replied “In the most literal sense of the word.. No.” Damn my honesty and morals. But even if I had said yes he would probably have refused, so it doesn’t really matter.
Part of the ‘fun’ came from our rough paper and another part came from Ian’s Amazing Math Calculator. So, the rough paper was his CMPS surveys on gaming, which apparently he doesn’t need anymore, because the results they got were so horrible they decided to fake them anyway. Which is stupid! People fake results when they didn’t give out any surveys, not because “the results are so crap”. But they are. I took home the sheets of rough paper we wrote on and the answers to the questions are really quite crap. >< Examples follow.
Why do you think so many people like to play such electronic games?
‘They like pretty colour LOL’
and…
How would you help a friend who spends all his time playing such electronic games?
‘Tell him to play other stuff’ … and ‘Set Bryan on him’.
apparently Bryan is this blatant homosexual in their class ._.
What do you think are the impacts of addiction to electronic games?
‘U B COME WHITE!’
n.n true, but, still..
Amusing, even so. I laughed for almost 5 minutes straight at the ‘pretty colour’ one. And Ian’s amazing math calculator really is amazing, it’s this bigass thing which is super heavy but it can draw graphs and you can apparently download and play games on it. Like Pokemon. I kid you not, really! It’s compulsory for all students in IB to buy or something like that. And Ian’s calculator had one button’s label worn off because that’s the button that you have to press to fire a gun in some game or something. And his calculator was the first to have that game, so everybody was borrowing it and punching the button like crazy. Oh yes and it costs about $100. Not very worth it. But I wish my calculator could sketch graphs.
Come to think of it I think I’ve seen Ian’s calculator before.. Huh. Probably in Jono’s bag or something with his math portfolio.
Now for the un-fun part. He set me homework! Damn damn damn. From the formative, even so. STUPID WHY DID I BRING THE FORMATIVE! Too late for regrets though.

erm…its called a “graphing calculator”.compulsory for anyone taking math at >secondary school level.mine cost…erm…around same price as my bag…
Ian? Bryan? Are they who I think they are?
wah, a GDC. i have friends with bomberman and mario on it. i just make do with the preloaded games hahah.
is ian in ib?
and no, tim, probably not the bryan we know. for one thing he’s probably in the wrong school.
@ darrel: it’s cool. my calculator can only do the normal stuff and show me stuff like SYNTAX ERROR and MATH ERROR. I think I need lessons on how to use my calculator. But anyway i survive pretty well. still, ian’s calculator is coolios.
@ tim: they’re in class 4.10 (samuel) i think. says so on their survey. at least, ian is in 4.10. not sure if theyre who you think they are (haha fob’s song do you know who i think i am.. or something like that whoops cant rmb)
@ jono: haha he deleted his games in time for exam season though. he has space destroyer or some weird game which you can find on old nokias. preloaded games? sheesh your calculator has everything man. and yes, ian’s in IB.. or pre-IB at least. and they’re in ACSI.
hahah i dun need 2 delete games 4 exams…juz clear ram…clears game records but…who cares??=))
AHH OMG I WANT A CALCULATOR THAT CAN PLAY POKEMON D: D: D: that would be so cool!!!
