a burst of inspiration

my last piece of you

well after all these times i’m still coming back to you
it’s not like i’ve gotten enough of black and blue
black for the memories in your basement in your bed
and blue is the colour of that scarf i made

do you remember?
the light that we had burning
before it got blown out by the wind so strong,
put a gas light to the flame,
watched the explosion as it came,
and i was in the way, yeah

somehow i can’t decide if i break or heal
maybe it’s because this world is surreal to me
breaking away the boundaries and rules
and healing my wounds with salt and glue

do you remember?
that time we woke up in the morning
and the sun was still asleep behind the hill
so bright, your eyes in the room
are all that i remember of the gloom,
the light will never be as beautiful

as my last piece of you,
bittersweet, so tempting
tinted black and blue.

i moved that bit of whatever from the exam post to this one, since it’s better organised this way.

about life

hey, I heard that life’s on the shelf
so be sure to get yours before they sell out,
because there aren’t any guarantees attached
and expiry dates could be sooner than you think.

obligations and promises come at a price
and extraordinary is only for the upper crust
(jock, bimbo, geek, rockstar, labels a dime a dozen)
be careful; distinction doesn’t come packaged

and you know what they say; (about you)
read the terms and conditions before purchasing
the instruction manual’s helpful in an identity crisis
and catch the fine print and cautionary warnings
before you try on your new life.

caution: it is dangerous to exceed the stated dose
