trishaw uncle):

i got wind of these 3 brits bullying one of our local trishaw uncles today. check these links out, in order:

1. BRITISH article published about the entire affair (includes vid of what exactly the 3 guys did):

2. comment page of the user who filmed the vid:

3. STOMP article:

and lastly, the PM i sent to the guy:
“i commented on your profile page, but in case you don’t check there anymore, or if the system screws up, i’m going to summarise it briefly here:

i know a lot of singaporeans are approaching this with a very racist view on the entire thing, but i’m trying the civil approach because i’ve got British friends and they’re good people.

according to users, you were at Clarke Quay, a clubbing area (i think), but even if you were drunk, it’s no excuse to go around bullying uncles like that. if brits behave like that when drunk, then stay away from the booze, man.

you guys had a bargain- he fulfilled his end, albeit slowly, but he was old. you should have expected that. but you guys didn’t fulfill your payment, which is barely 3 pounds, if i remember the exchange rate correctly.

did you even realise that he had no idea you guys were insulting him, having a poor command of English? you guys probably did. he couldn’t even retaliate, and you laughed at him for being old and not so sprightly as he might have been. if that’s not bullying, I don’t know what is- but yes, it IS insensitive, too.

and also, in my personal opinion, not only did you degrade the trishaw driver, you also degraded yourselves by exhibiting such shameless behaviour, and sullied the image of your home country. even your local news website published an article www(dot)dailymail(dot)co(dot)uk/pages/live/articles/news/news(dot)html?in_article_id=490946&in_page_id=1770, i suggest you read it if you haven’t already.

in case you’d like to reply me, just send me a message back. i hope you will, and explain yourself (though i highly doubt there’s a suitable explanation to placate people angered by this issue).”

i am so totally proud of myself for not including a single swear word in there, srsly. check out the comments, they’ve got like tons of swearwords, hokkien included, but that’s got no point because they wouldnt understand the hokkien swear words, and cursing them back just makes singaporeans seem racist and mean. besides, we really shouldn’t curse them back even if they were mean to a singaporean uncle- it’s degrading to us, too.

.. but, “sullied the image of your home country”? argh too much NE and school reflections stuff has brainwashed me!!! D8

/edit this woman is so amazing she should be honoured with a seperate post, but i’m lazy, so:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=UzSLNmQVbck and damn me if that’s not the best original ever. check out the rest of her stuff too. simply amazing shit. her voice is throaty without being unclear and it’s just so soulful <3 and her surname is so cool.
